Cursor usage limits explained
What this means in practice
- If you mostly use Claude or GPT in Cursor, the weekly pool size matters less than your prepaid credit and your monthly additional usage limit.
- If you stay on Cursor's own models, picking Composer 2.5 over Grok 4.7 for routine work is the cheaper option on Cursor's published rates, and leaving Fast mode off avoids the 2x rate.
- Plus ($8) is Cursor models only, with fixed settings. You need Premium or higher for third-party models, Fast mode and effort levels.
How do Cursor usage limits work?
Each paid plan gets one usage pool for Cursor's own models (Grok 4.7, Grok 4.6, Grok 4.5 and Composer 2.5). The pool refreshes weekly and is shared across Agent in the editor, the CLI, Cloud Agents, Grok Bot and the Grok apps. cursor.com checked 2026-10-22
How big is each plan's pool?
Cursor states sizes relative to Plus: Premium is 4x Plus, Super is 15x Plus and Ultra is 50x Plus. It does not publish the size of the Plus pool itself, so there is no message or token count to quote. cursor.com checked 2026-10-22
Do Claude, GPT and Gemini count against the pool?
No. Third-party models are not in the pool. On Premium and above they bill at the model's API list price from your prepaid credit, from the first request. Plus and Free don't include third-party models. cursor.com checked 2026-10-22
Does every model use the pool at the same rate?
No. Cursor says different models draw from the pool at different rates. Its published rates for usage beyond the pool show Composer 2.5 at $0.50 input / $2.50 output per million tokens and Grok 4.7 at $2 / $6. Fast mode is billed at 2x, and Grok 4.7 above 256k input tokens at 2x. cursor.com checked 2026-10-22
What happens when the weekly pool runs out?
You can wait for the weekly reset, keep working on prepaid credit at the same per-model rates (top-ups or Auto Top-up), or move to a higher tier. Cursor says requests are never downgraded in quality or speed. A monthly additional usage limit caps how much paid extra usage you can use. cursor.com checked 2026-10-22
Where do I see what's left and when it resets?
In your editor settings, and under Usage at grok.com/dashboard. cursor.com checked 2026-10-22
I'm on Pro, Pro+ or Ultra from before. Does this apply?
Those are legacy Cursor plans. They keep working with two monthly pools (Cursor models and other models) and on-demand usage instead of the weekly pool. cursor.com checked 2026-10-22
