Gemini CLI limits explained

What this means in practice

Agent-style tasks that loop through many tool calls use requests faster than single questions. Watch for that before a long run late in the day.
Inline completions count against the separate 6,000 code requests quota, not the 1,500 CLI and agent quota.

What is the Gemini CLI daily limit?

With Gemini Code Assist Standard, Gemini CLI and agent mode share a quota of 1,500 requests per user per day. Enterprise gets 2,000. The count covers every model (Pro, Flash and so on) used through those two surfaces. docs.cloud.google.com checked 2026-10-22

Is one prompt one request?

Not always. Google says one prompt in agent mode or the Gemini CLI might result in multiple model requests, so 1,500 requests can mean fewer than 1,500 prompts. docs.cloud.google.com checked 2026-10-22

What happens at the limit?

Once the daily maximum is reached, no further requests can go through Gemini CLI or agent mode, to any model, until the quota resets. Requests are also limited per user per minute and depend on service availability at busy times. docs.cloud.google.com checked 2026-10-22

Are there other Code Assist quotas?

Yes. Per user per day: 6,000 code requests (generation and completion) and 960 chat requests, plus 2 requests per second. Code Assist on GitHub reviews are counted separately (at least 100 pull request reviews per day per installation). docs.cloud.google.com checked 2026-10-22

Can I raise the quota?

Google says most Gemini for Google Cloud quotas have default values you can usually ask to adjust in the Google Cloud console, while system limits are fixed. Quotas apply per Google Cloud project. docs.cloud.google.com checked 2026-10-22

I used Gemini CLI with Google AI Pro or the free tier. What now?

Per Google, consumer Gemini CLI access (free individual, Google AI Pro and Ultra) ended on 2026-06-18 and moved to Antigravity, which uses weekly rate limits and does not publish numbers. developers.google.com checked 2026-10-22
